Did you know that each year The state of Texas spends millions of dollars to fight the war on illegal dumping? ' Illegal dumping is major problem throughout all of Texas. Vacant shopping centers, public parks, drainage ditches, isolated roads are just some of the many places you'll find materials that have been illegally dumped. Some of the more common items you can find are tires, construction waste, old appliances, mattresses, and regular household trash. According to txregionalcouncil.org over 6.5 million pounds of waste is removed from illegal dumping sites annually. Not only is this eyesore, but worse it can create environments that are psychically dangerous for anyone nearby. The garbage left behind by these criminals makes its way into drainage channels, creating flooding issues to arise and sometimes waterways, which frequently contaminates surface water that local animals drink and eventually makes its way into groundwater. Not only can this hazardous materials contaminate our water supplies, but it becomes a breeding ground for rodents and other critters which you can imagine creates a different set of problems. All in which inevitably leads to to the devaluation of property values in the surrounding areas and which you can imagine creates more illegal dumping and crime opportunities.
To combat illegal dumping, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality promotes a four-part approach: promote available disposal options, raise public awareness of the hazards and disposal options, host cleanups of existing illegal dump sites, and enforce illegal dumping laws. Prevention and cleanup of illegal dump sites makes a community more resilient by reducing the risk of flooding, more attractive to investors or companies by providing clean and safe locations for doing business, and more welcoming for residents and visitors by improving and sustaining daily quality of life. During Fiscal Years 2020/2021, the Regional Solid Waste Grants Program funded 24 local enforcement grants at almost $474,000. Through these grants, law enforcement investigated 2,987 illegal dumping sites, identified 1,006 violators, and caused the removal of 6.59 million pounds of waste. Illegally dumped tires are of particular concern in Texas. To combat this, many grantees across the state include tire collection and recycling as a part of their grant. During Fiscal Years 2020/2021 almost $1,228,400 of Regional Solid Waste Grants Program funds was spent on the collection and recycling of 636,083 tires, an almost threefold increase over the previous biennium. Councils of Governments identified the need for more tire collections, more accessible markets for tire recycling, more education about illegal tire dumping, more enforcement, and more funding to meet the demand and address the problem. How to Prevent Illegal Dumping
Here are a few ways you can join the fight against Illegal Dumping
There are very few items that we won't typically take. Hazardous materials and Food waste are at the Top of that list. If you have an item that you question yourself, it's a best practice to let your salesperson know about it upfront so that there is no chance we could be put you, our Team members or people in the public at risk. This is one of the more important points we try to stress on the public. Things like paint or chemicals can be a real fire hazard if they were unknowingly disposed of improperly. If we can't handle an item, we probably know the appropriate way to go about it and would be happy to share the information.
Our Junk Removal Pricing is primarily based on the amount of space your items require in our 18-yard Dumpster. We would need an idea of how much Junk you would be letting go to come up with accurate pricing. If you're looking for a price now, supply us with a list or photos of the items you're needing removed, basic information about the pickup location and one of our Team Members can take it from there. The entire process is very painless, many of times it can be worked through on a 5 minute or less phone call.
The short answer is it depends. We donate, recycle and repurpose as much as we can. Donations depend on the type, conditions and stock of centers we partner with. We recycle things like paper cardboard and metal when feasible and repurpose things like furniture and household equipment, to places like escape rooms, paintball facilities or open houses for example. For items that cannot be recycled or repurposed, they make their way to a licensed landfill or transfer station.
If you are looking for someone to take care of your junk removal, furniture removal, cleanout, or demolition needs. We are here for our community and want to help you!
On a tight schedule? Email or text photos of the materials you’re needing hauled off, a general description of the materials being taken and the parking situation. If we are removing materials from a multi-story property, please mention in this request.
